Garlic Naan without Tandoor on Stove top

Naan, a very famous Indian flat bread which gets prepared usually in a tandoor. But recently I got to know that it could be prepared on a stove top too using our normal skillet. Though there are many ways to prepare like making use of oven, using pressure cooker and so on. But for me this is a very easy and best way to prepare. They taste as similar as the ones we get in restaurants. I made use of yeast because of my instant need to prepare naan. If planned, we could very well avoid yeast and prepare by getting the dough ready 7-8 hours well before preparing naan. Very soft in texture it was and the flavor of garlic is something which just raised the level of Hcl in my tummy and for me it was a suffering when I prepared them as the smell of garlic in my kitchen was so much that I felt like eating them as soon as they were removed off the skillet. But what stopped me from eating was my desire to get the pictures clicked before finishing off those flavorful, flat breads. It was our dinner the other day accompanied with Dill leaves and cucumber raita and creamy spinach curry. Do check the Dill leaves and cucumber raita recipe and creamy spinach recipe. It was a very good combination though it was the first time we tried that combo. Here I share my recipe for garlic naan on stove top.

Ingredients:
All purpose flour/Maida-2 cups
Milk-1/2 cup
Rapid rise dry Yeast-1 tsp
Luke warm water-1/2 cup
Sugar-1 tsp
Garlic-10-12pods chopped fine
Oil-2 tsp
Ghee/Melted butter to smear
Water if needed for dough

Recipe:
  1. In a bowl add luke warm water, sugar and yeast. Wait for 5-8 minutes.
  2. Froth will start forming on top indicating that the yeast mixture is ready.
  3. Add maida in a bowl and to that add salt, oil, half the amount of chopped garlic.
  4. Add the yeast mixture prepared to it and start to knead. Keep adding little by little milk as you knead. Add water only if required to get a very soft sticky dough.
  5. Cover and let it rest for 40 minutes.
  6. You can observe that the dough had doubled in size.
  7. Punch it down and knead again till all air trapped in escapes out. Dust your hands to pull out a lemon sized ball out of it.
  8. Pull out balls from the dough and dust the balls with dry flour.
  9. Using your hands just pull apart little by little to get the naan ready.
  10. Place it on a flat area and next you need to add garlic on top.
  11. For that, just spread 1/2 tsp of the chopped garlic on top and pat it so that they don't fall apart.
  12. Cook on one side and as you see bubbles rising flip and apply melted butter or even ghee on top and cook the other side.Once cooked flip again and cook for few seconds and your garlic naan is ready to be served.

Note:
If you are not using yeast, you could very well use yogurt while kneading.

Enjoy the dish! n don't forget Eat and Eat little MORE.. :)
